Article I: Name – The New Jersey Association of Endodontists
Section I. The name of this association shall be the N.J. Association of Endodontists, hereinafter called “the Association” or “this Association”.
Article II: Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of this Association is
a. To promote the highest professional standards in clinical excellence and education for the specialty of endodontics in New Jersey
b. To promote the highest standard of endodontic care for the public
c. To be a state affiliate of the American Association of Endodontists in District II
d. To represent the specialty of endodontics in the state of New Jersey
e. To maintain a cooperative relationship with the state and local dental societies and other dental specialty organizations
f. To provide the public, the media, and third party carriers with information and guidance in matters relating to endodontics
Article III: Membership
The membership of this affiliate association shall be composed of Active members, Educator members, Associate members, Life members, Retired members, Student members, Auxiliary members and Pre-doctoral Student members of the American Association of Endodontists within the state of N.J. All Active and Life members of the American Association of Endodontists within the state of N.J. shall be eligible for Active membership. There can be no exclusion from active membership in this association for an Active or Life member of the American Association of Endodontists within the state of New Jersey.
Article IV: Officers
Section I. The officers of this Association shall consist of a president, vice- president, and secretary-treasurer.
Section II. The duties of the officers shall be those conventionally associated with the official titles and such other duties as the officers or membership may assign.
Section III. Each elected office shall be for the period of two (2) years. Any officer may be re-elected to succeed himself or herself except for the office of president.
Section IV: The Nominating Committee is charged with the duty to select a suitable successor to the president. The vice-president does not automatically succeed the president.
Section V: The duties of the officers shall be those normally associated with the Official titles and such other duties assigned by the Board of Directors and the Associations membership and the bylaws of the NJAE.
Article V: Meetings
Section I. There shall be an annual meeting of the Association. The annual meeting will be the AAE District II’s Winter Symposium.
Section II. Only at the discretion of the Executive Committee can a special meeting be called or at the written request of one-third of the Active and Life members of this state association. A minimum of two (2) weeks of advanced notice is required to call a special meeting.
Article VI: Relationship with the American Association of Endodontists
This Association agrees to abide by the constitution and bylaws of the American Association of Endodontists.
Article VII: Relationship with other States in District II
This Association will work with other affiliate members of District II to promote clinical and educational excellence in endodontics.
Article VIII: Nominations and Elections
Section I. The nominating committee shall consist of the three (3) most recent past presidents, chaired by the senior past president.
Section II. The nominating committee shall provide a slate of candidates for election to office no later than 30 days prior to the annual Winter Symposium. Notification of the general membership must be no later than 15 days prior to the Symposium.
Section III. Active or life members of the association may make nominations from the floor for any office of the executive committee and Board of Directors except the office of president.
Article IX: Executive Committee
Section I. The executive committee shall consist of the three (3) elected officers and the immediate past president. The president can make an appointment to fill the unexpired term of a past president unable to complete their term in office.
Section II. All executive committee votes shall be a simple majority and the president shall only cast a vote to break a tie.
Section III. The election of new officers and New Jersey State affiliate directors shall take place at the District II Winter meeting.
Section IV. The election of a District II Board of Director will take place at the AAE’s Annual Session.
Section V. Election of all officers and directors (national & state) shall be by a
simple majority of the votes cast. Voting shall be by closed ballot.
Article X: Board of Directors
Section I. Authority: The administration of the association shall be vested in the
Executive Committee in consultation with the Board of Directors
Section II. Composition: The Board of Directors shall consist of four (4)
Directors who must be Active or Life members
Section III. Term of Office: Directors shall serve for a two (2) year term and
can succeed themselves at the concurrence of the Executive Committee and the
Board of Directors
Section IV. Selection of Directors: The Board of Directors shall be chosen by the
Nominating Committee and elected by the membership at the Association’s
Winter Symposium or at the District II Caucus at the AAE’s Annual Session
Article XI: Committees
Section I. Standing committees of the Association shall be:
Constitution
Education
Ethics
Insurance
Membership
Nominating
Section II. At the discretion of the president a special committee may beAppointed. Upon the submission of the special committee’s final report to theexecutive committee and the board of directors their term/tenure will end.
Section III. The president shall appoint a chairperson for each standing and special committee from amongst the members of the committee.
Section IV. The president with the approval of the Executive Committee shall make appointments to standing committees.
Section V. The president may appoint Student Members to appropriate committees for a one (1) year term.
Article XII: Amendments
The Constitution may be amended by a 3/4ths vote of the voting membership of the Association present at the annual meeting. Proposed amendments shall be published and distributed to the membership at least 30 days prior to the annual meeting.
BY-LAWS
Chapter I: Membership Requirements
Section I. Active members
Acceptance for active membership will be approved provided the following requirements are met:
a. Membership in the New Jersey Dental Association
b. Membership in the American Association of Endodontists
c. Fulfills one of the following requirements:
1. Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics
2. Successfully completed an ADA approved postgraduate
program or residency in endodontics
3. Limited practice to endodontics prior to January 1, 1965
4. An Active or Life member of the AAE
Section II. Student members
A dentist enrolled in an ADA approved endodontic postgraduate program or residency is eligible for approval as a student member if the following requirements are met:
a. Active or student membership in the ADA
b. Submission of a letter of recommendation from the head of the
Department of endodontics where enrolled
c. Endorsement by two (2) active members of the New Jersey
Association of Endodontists
d. Student member of the AAE
At the successful completion of graduate training, the student member is required to submit an application for active membership. Student membership ceases on the last day of the calendar year in which specialty training is completed, unless the course is completed after November 1, in which case a student may be granted an extension until June 30 of the following year.
Section III. Honorary Members Honorary members shall be those elected to
Membership because of significant contributions that have furthered the
advancement of endodontics
Chapter II: Ethics and Professional Conduct
The Principles of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct of the American Association of Endodontists and the American Dental Association shall govern the professional conduct of all members of this Association.
